Lady Canes Basketball: Moving on Up To The Semifinals In The WNIT

Shenise Johnson was lights out with 33 points in the win Sunday afternoon as well as 10 rebounds, an absolutely impressive performance and career high totals as well. The Lady Canes will travel to Ann Arbor for the Wednesday matchup against Michigan. Game time is set for 7 P.M.

The Canes closed out the series against NC State sunday with a 4-0 win. The Canes lost in the 11th inning on Saturday, so the series total was 2 wins 1 loss. This should keep Miami right around the 10 slot hopefully gaining a position or two in the rankings this week.

The Canes are now 14-6 and have played well, but not good enough to put them in the top few teams in the country. Their pitching has been good, but not good enough unfortunately up to this point.

The Canes have plenty of talent which gives them the ability to contend. Holding opponents off in the late innings is hurting the team. That was evident against UCF and Fordham. While the Canes have been able to put up good numbers in the late innings in many games this year, this isn't a position we should be comfortable in. Sometimes those late rallies are not enough as we saw with UCF. Fordham and UCF are not the teams that Miami needs to let slip through, these should be W's on the schedule. We should be seeing those unfortunate losses happen against more talented and higher ranked opponents.

I see the Canes picking it up and moving into the top 10 in the country with a good solid sweep of NC State this weekend. Lets hope the Canes put it to 'em. LETS GO CANES>>>

In another stunner, the UCF Knights upset the Hurricanes Tuesday night at "the light". Scott Lawson went 3-4 with a homerun, and Harold Martinez added another 2 hits, but unfortunately it wasn't enough.

In the 7th inning on Wednesday night, the Canes were down by 5. A late rally in the 7th led to a 5 run swing and eventually a 9-8 win over Fordham.

The Canes lost the first of two games to Fordham Tuesday night 4-3. It was a lackluster performance by the Canes considering Fordham is one of the worst teams in the country with just a handful of wins this season.

The Canes will need to step up their game if they are going to remain National Contenders.

It was a great ACC tournament for the Hurricanes. Durand Scott had a great tourney and game with 21 points against DUKE today, and 9 of the 11 points in the end of the Virginia Tech Game.

Durand Scott is only a Freshman, so the Canes will have him around for a while we hope.

The Canes travel to Chapel Hill to take on the Tarheels Tuesday, March 2, 2010. North Carolina has had a lackluster season and the Canes are hoping to play strong after losing to NC State just a few days earlier 71-66.

The Hurricanes are 18-10 entering the game against North Carolina whose record is 15-14.
