Good Win For Canes Helps Move Past Loss

The Canes had an impressive performance this past week against Pittsburgh. The defense was great and played hard the entire game giving up only 3 points which came in the second half. The offense looked good but nothing spectacular.

Jacory was just average, he had another 2 interceptions and continued to float most of his passes to his receivers. Jacory just doesn't get it or just can't get it, he has no velocity on his passes at all. Harris continually floats passes into receivers that could be picked off at anytime, he came close to having 2 additional interceptions against Pitt which would have gave him 8 in two games, instead we settled for 6 in two games.

Looking past Jacory, we saw Damien Berry rush for 87 yards on 21 carries and score a touchdown. Berry averaged 4.1 yards per carry and shared time with Lamar Miller. Miller had 8 carries for 31 yards and 1 touchdown, averaging 3.9 yards per carry. Travis Benjamin was the leading receiver this week with 1 TD on 6 receptions for 96 yards, Benjamin now has 158 yards this season from 10 receptions giving him an average of 15.8 yards per catch. Hankerson had only 36 yards in the game on 3 receptions but one was a touchdown which was lobbed up for him in the end zone from Jacory. Hankerson has 241 yards this season with 16 receptions, he his averaging 15 yards per catch. Laron Byrd had 6 receptions in the game for 69 yards, he has 118 yards on 12 receptions this season. All in all the Canes had 7 receivers catch passes including Berry and James out of the backfield.

Defense was strong with Sean Spence leading the way with 9 tackles (6 of which were solo), and 2 sacks. Miami had 6 total sacks on the day with 2 more coming from defensive linemen Andrew Smith, 1 from Colin Mcarthy and 1 from Allen Bailey. ryanHill had a great afternoon as well, he had 5 tackles 4 of which were solo and an interception. Demarcus VanDyke also had a pick in the game and took it for 74 yards.

The Canes are now looking towards Clemson next week as a big ACC rival matchup goes down in South Carolina. The Canes are 1-2 against the Clemson Tigers over the past 3 match-ups.
