ACC Tournament News: Canes Beat FSU. Two More To Go. Boston College Up Next

The Canes handed a proper beat-down to the Seminoles today in Greensboro, NC, winning 9-3. This game went well for the Canes pretty much from the start. The Second inning for the Canes saw a serious burst of well needed power as Nathan Melendres hit a two run homerun over the right field wall. Next up was Michael "I can do what you can do better" Broad. Broad gave the Canes back to back homeruns by adding another shot right over the wall about 370 feet from where it started. The Canes jumped out to a 3-0 lead going into the second and then FSU tacked on two in the 3rd inning to pull within 1 run.

In the fourth Miami added two more runs to make it 5-2. The Seminoles added 1 more after a triple from Devin Travis, a sacrifice fly, and a throwing error from Chris Pelaez. Harold "Hay-Mart" Martinez came right back in the fifth with a 3 run blast that put the Canes in a commanding 8-3 lead. The Canes never looked back after that and the Seminoles were dealt their first loss of the tournament.

Now we look ahead to Boston College tomorrow, game time 12 noon. The Miami Hurricanes played the Boston College Eagles back in mid March, taking 2 out of 3. The first game the Eagles won 3-0, and the next two the Canes took 7-1 and 11-4. Yasmani Grandal went 7 for 11 in the series, so look for him to be hot again tomorrow.

The bullpen did not give up an earned run during the BC series and saw multiple pitchers throw scoreless innings. We need the bullpen to remain strong throughout the tournament in order to keep the Canes in contention late in the game. The bullpen has had its share of troubles throughout the season but they have come on strong at the end of the year. Sam Robinson has been good for the Canes as a 1 or 2 inning specialist. He has an era of 0.81 in 22 innings of relief work and he usually throws in the 6-8th innings. EJ Encinosa has also done well in recent performances and threw well tonight against FSU for two scoreless innings

The Big hitters for the Boston College Eagles are:

Anthony Melchionda - batting .368, with 77 hits, and 41 RBI's.

Robbie Anston - batting .325, with 75 hits, and 33RBI's.

John Spatola - batting .324, with 71hits, and 57RBI's.

Mickey Wiswall - batting .299, with 69 hits, and 60 RBI's with 18 HR's.
