Road to The ACC Baseball Championship Just Got Tougher With Loss To Boston College for Miami

It took 12 innings to determine the outcome of Thursday's game against Boston College at the ACC tournament for the Canes. The outcome was not good. The game was lost on a bottom of the 12th inning home-run by the Boston College Eagles. This game saw more power than Tim "the tool man" Taylor.

It took the Hurricanes 6 innings to get things going. Yasmani Grandal helped get things going with a solo blast giving the Hurricanes their first run of the game after Boston had put on 4 runs in the first 5 innings. After that Harold Martinez singled, then Pelaez walked. Nathan Melendres came up and hit an RBI single, 4-2 Miami. After a sac bunt and a sac fly, Pelaez scores as well. 4-3 Canes. Stephen Perez then hit a single which brought in the Canes 4th run of the game. Game tied 4-4.

BC added one run in the 7th inning making it 5-4, and then the Hurricanes powered back up in the 9th inning with 3 singles in a row from Lawson, Grandal, and Martinez. Melendres then walked bringing in another run, 5-5 now. Next up was Zeke "Redemption Song" Devoss who had been moved from his lead-off batter position this game after poor performances the past few games. Zeke hit in the 8th position yesterday and he hit a monstrous Grand Slam in that position to bring in 4 runs for the Canes. They added one more making the game total 10-5 Canes lead going into the bottom of the 9th.

All of sudden BC decides to follow in Miami's footsteps and they put up 3 singles with only 1 out. After a walk and fielder'c choice BC added 2, its now 10-7 Miami. Then comes Spatola for Boston College who is batting (.324, 71Hits, 57RBI's.) and he hits a 3 run home-run to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, (10-10).

What a crazy matchup this was. This game was exciting to the very end, one of the most nail bitting games of the season.

On to the 12th inning.

Stephen Perez was has walked for the Canes and stole 2nd base. Man on 2nd, 2 outs. Frankie Ratcliffe hits a ball that allows him to reach on an error and in the process Stephen Perez rounds third and is waived home by the third base coach Mercandante. The play was at the plate and Stephen Perez was tagged out by a foot, inning over.

In the bottom of the 12th with 1 out, Boston College's Lawrence hit a 2 run HR to give the BC Eagles the win. Heartbreak for Miami as they let the game slip away, and now a tough road ahead to win the tournament.
