Baseball Hangover: A Tough One To Shake

Well, our heads still hurt from the Canes showing in the Super-Regional against the Gators this past weekend. It has been a tough loss to shake and there is no hair of the dog available until at least August when Football season starts. The Canes had a lot of talent again this year on the baseball team but it just wasn't enough to get to Omaha.

I mean the Gators basically had our number all year, and that was evident in the super-regionals. The Hurricanes came into the Supers with a team known for their bats and who had hit over 100 homeruns this season. However in the end it was our bats that lets us down. The Canes just couldn't put up the runs we needed to even after Chris Hernandez threw a 2 hitter through 9 innings.

This season was riddled with sporadic let downs which did not truly reflect the talent of this young ball club. Early in the season our relief staff was just down right suspect, you never knew what you were gonna get from them. Middle of the season saw us leaving stranded runner after runner on base in scoring position. In the end of the season, we just couldn't produce the hits and runs we needed at the right times. This team was much better than what we displayed this year. We have a tremendous amount of young talent who had moments of greatness this season. However we also had enough errors in the last 10 games of our season to clearly show how young we truly are.

All die-hards know it is a tough hangover to shake when you know your team can show better than they did. It leaves you with an empty feeling in your stomach and a headache for a week or two. This year's baseball season has done that to us Canes fans unfortunately, it just feels empty and without reward, the reward that is Omaha or an ACC championship.

With that said, we give credit to all the players for their hard work and we know they will surely return next year with the fire lit within them.

Summer is here so lots of updates on football coming soon. Canes fans stay strong, shake the Canes hangover off, and get ready to throw up your U's soon enough.
